Marcia Crumley is a Boston-based artist known for infusing bold and unexpected colors into her interpretive landscapes. She works primarily in acrylics, exploiting their saturated hues to full advantage.

Her most recent landscape series is painted on damask paper, incorporating its stylized, repetitive patterns into the painted image to add visual depth and texture. In some pieces, such as “Spirit Moon,” large swaths of orange paper are left exposed, becoming unanticipated features of the sea and sky.  In other works, such as “Blazing Hills,” only a thin slice of green paper is left unpainted, forming the riverbank. A hint of damask also remains barely visible underneath the opaque sky.  For viewers for the damask patterns becomes a fun part of experiencing the art.

Marcia Crumley studied painting at Massachusetts College of Art and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Worcester Art Museum, the New Bedford Museum of Art, and Boston landmarks including Boston City Hall, International Place, and the Prudential Center.
