I am a visual artist living in Boston. I am originally from Vermont, but grew up in southern New Hampshire. I have been painting and drawing since I could hold a crayon and brush. I have a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art and Art History from Hartwick College, as well as a Master's degree in Museum Studies from the Harvard Extension School. By day I work as an Archivist. All the rest of the time I am either making art, running, hiking, or kayaking.
I have been working in watercolors since 1997, when I took a painting trip to St. Lucia and Trinidad. I was immediately attracted to watercolors for their ease of use and portability. All you need are paints, paper, a brush and some water, making them simple to use any place you might wander. Today I use them in the mountains of New England to capture the unique environment of deep forests paired with rocky peaks, clouds, sun and sky.
I came to oil painting around 2008 in order to re-imagine old black and white family photographs as colorful, nostalgic visions. I love to conjure up untold stories behind the images and breath new life into them through painting. Oil painting and water media work now take up equal parts of my energy. There are normally both oils and watercolors in the works on my studio easel in Roslindale.
